The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has successfully concluded its internal Quran and Madhaha (Islamic praise songs) competition held for the Islamic Year 1447. The award ceremony, held to celebrate the results of the second annual Quran Competition and the newly introduced Madhaha Competition, was marked by grand celebrations. The prestigious event took place on April 22nd at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs hall and was graced by the First Lady of the Maldives, Madam Sajidha Mohamed.
During the ceremony, prize money, trophies, and certificates of commendation were handed out to the top achievers. In the Quran Competition, the first-place winner overall received a grand cash prize of 25,000 MVR, while the second-place winner received 7,000 MVR, and the third-place winner was awarded 5,000 MVR. Valuable cash prizes were also distributed to the top contestants in the Madhaha Competition category. Specifically, the first-place winner of the Madhaha Competition took home 10,000 MVR, followed by 7,000 MVR for second place, and 5,000 MVR for third place. First Lady Madam Sajidha personally presented the awards to the proud first-place champions of both competitions.
The Quran and Madhaha competitions were held during the past month of Ramadan, designed to promote Quranic knowledge and revive Islamic values in the Maldives under the positive opportunities facilitated by current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. These competitions were conducted by opening up the opportunity to WAMCO staff under the leadership and guidance of Managing Director Mujthaba Jaleel.
A total of 57 employees participated across the recitation from memory (unseen) and recitation by looking categories of the Quran Competition. Notably, 10 of these participants took part online from the outer atolls. Furthermore, despite the Madhaha Competition being introduced for the very first time this year, it received an overwhelmingly positive response. A total of 46 individual participants performed in the Madhaha category, while group presentations were submitted by 5 different company departments. Both competitions were judged in a highly fair and just manner by prominent, high-caliber experts in the Maldives.
As part of WAMCO's ongoing efforts to familiarize its employees with religious knowledge, the corporation is currently offering standard Quran classes to help staff learn beautiful recitation with a particular emphasis on proper Tajweed rules. To expand this service further, work is currently underway to build a dedicated facility for conducting these Quran classes. The corporation hopes that the construction of this building will be finalized by the end of this year, allowing employees to utilize the facility to its full potential.
