The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has successfully concluded its participation in the Islamic Year 1447 Al'ha Eid festivities. As one of the largest companies in the Maldives, WAMCO is deeply connected to the pulse of the Maldivian people. The sustainable efforts made by WAMCO to resolve the nation's waste management challenges serve as an exemplary model of public service.
WAMCO took part in “Eid Haveeru 1447,” held daily from May 27 to May 29 between 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, as part of the Eid celebrations organized by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). During this event, WAMCO showcased unique and interactive initiatives across stalls set up at three distinct locations, which included Central Park in Hulhumalé, Hulhumalé Phase 2, and Villingili. The activities received immense support and enthusiasm from children and the general public alike, largely because the experiences offered across all of the WAMCO Eid stalls were uniquely distinct.
The stalls were carefully designed to communicate the importance of WAMCO's services within a fun, family-friendly environment, aiming to naturally convey the vital nature of waste management to the rising younger generation. A total of five games were hosted at the WAMCO stall, which included Flip & Match, Floor Puzzle, Bin It to Win It, Smash the Waste Monster, and Fish or Trash. These games were specifically structured to teach children how to identify and segregate different types of waste in an enjoyable setting. To celebrate their participation and learning, WAMCO presented a special prize to every single child who finished the games.
Beyond the educational games, the biggest attraction among the public visiting the Eid festival was an environmentally-themed bird installation designed by the company. Crafted by WAMCO employees entirely out of discarded plastic bottles, this impressive four-foot bird served as a highly popular photo prop at Central Park. Along with the bird sculpture, various environmental awareness messages were displayed throughout different areas of the WAMCO stalls, successfully catching the public’s eye. In total, around 8,000 people visited the WAMCO stalls and participated in the games during this year's Al'ha Eid celebrations.
