WAMCO Cup 2026 Celebrates Employee Unity and Sporting Excellence

"Club WAMCO," of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), has successfully concluded the "WAMCO Cup 2026" futsal tournament. Organized with the primary goal of strengthening bonds and fostering closer relationships among corporation staff, the tournament ran from May 7th to May 15th, 2026. The event saw immense corporate-wide engagement, bringing together more than 900 employees who participated and supported the highly competitive and thrilling matches.

The tournament kicked off with a grand opening ceremony that gathered all participating teams. The President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Ahmed Tariq, graced the ceremony as the chief guest to officially open the competition. Following the opening, an exciting exhibition match took place between two management teams, Team Green and Team White. The energetic match ended in a 2-2 draw, with WAMCO's Managing Director, Mujthaba Jaleel, delivering a standout performance and being named the player of the match for Team Green.

A total of 36 teams competed across two main divisions during the event, comprising 6 teams in the women's division and 30 teams in the men's division. The grand finale of the tournament shared the spotlight with a spectacular closing ceremony and a dedicated Charity Shield match, all hosted on the final evening. In the men's division final, Malé Facilities faced off against Team Security, securing the championship title with a close 1-0 victory. Meanwhile, the women's division final saw Team Divas go up against Team 50/50, where Team Divas dominated the pitch with a 5-0 win to claim their championship trophy. The Charity Shield match featured another management face-off between Team White and Team Green, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Team White.

Outstanding individual performances were highly celebrated at the closing ceremony. Ahmed Vijudhan from Malé Facilities was named the player of the final match for the men's division, while Fatimath Naushan Niyaz from Team Divas earned the honor for the women's final. Additionally, Moosa Ahmed of Team White was recognized as the player of the match for the Charity Shield game. For the overall tournament accolades, Ahmed Vijudhan was crowned the "King of the Tournament," and Mariyam Malsa Shameem from Team Divas was crowned the "Queen of the Tournament".

The dream teams for both categories were also revealed during the closing rewards. The top 5 players chosen for the men's division tournament included Ahmed Amnu and Mohamed Shiyaz from Malé Facilities, Mohamed Shan from Projects, alongside Shaikhan Faiz and Mohamed Mazin from Team Security. The top 5 players designated for the women's division featured Fatimath Naushan Niyaz and Mariyam Naifa from Team Divas, Aishath Althaf from Team 50/50, Fatimath Leesa from Team Corp, and Aishath Nabaha Mohamed from Team Valkyries.

In the scoring records, Mohamed Shan from Projects took home the Top Scorer award for the men's division by netting a total of 16 goals throughout the competition. The women's division saw a tie for the Top Scorer award, with Aishath Althaf from Team 50/50 and Fatimath Leesa from Team Corp both securing the title with 10 goals each. Coaching excellence was acknowledged as well, with Affan Mohamed from Malé Facilities winning best coach for the men's division, and Ahmed Niyaz from Team Divas taking the title for the women's division. Team Corp was awarded the Fair Play award for the women's division, and Team Proqx took home the Fair Play award for the men's division.

The closing ceremony wrapped up by engaging the broader community and acknowledging key supporters. A cash prize was handed over to Khalid Abdulla, who was drawn as the lucky winner of the "Follow and Win" social media campaign run across WAMCO's platforms. To conclude the evening, Club WAMCO presented special commemorative plaques to all the parties and partners who provided various forms of assistance to ensure the tournament's overall success.
